NETWORK MAKES STRONGER
The Pori Centre for Children's Culture functions as an umbrella organisation
for the existing actors in the Pori region – cultural establishments,
educational institutions, universities and academies, other organisations,
etc. – by integrating, developing and redirecting their activities
and cooperation in the field of children's culture. The centre has a
steering group that defines and plans its activities, and a project team
with representation from relevant actors, in charge of implementing the
steering group's decisions. The fundamental principle in the centre's
operations is the right of children and young people to their own culture.
Children's culture is a generic concept that covers a great many areas.
The network of children culture produces programmes, performances and
exhibitions for children, as well as activities implemented by the children
themselves. Other topics covered by the network include research on children's
culture, funding, multicultural education, etc. The network membership
includes not only actors in the field of children's culture, but also
expert bodies from the economy, social affairs, education, multicultural
affairs and society at large.
The work done at the centre aims at building and developing the identity
of youth and children. The centre's key areas of operation are: to create
and develop cooperation networks; develop working methods based on culture
and art as well as on art pedagogy; promote research into children's
culture and facilitate the utilisation of its results; and to promote
children's culture in general.
